The hybrid changes how the car delivers performance
GWM describes the petrol model as a 1.5-litre turbo front-wheel-drive SUV and its brochure lists 110 kW (150 hp). Drive both on the same route with the air-conditioner running. Include crawling traffic, an incline, a faster road and a parking manoeuvre. The HEV's low-speed response and regenerative braking should feel natural to every regular driver; the petrol car's transmission behaviour should also be tested at low speed rather than judged from a specification sheet.
Fuel savings must repay a real premium
The HEV's advantage is most likely to appear in repeated urban slowing and acceleration, where the hybrid system can recover energy and use electric assistance. A feature shared by both cars should not be counted as justification for the HEV premium.

Choose the 1.5T when purchase price, lower finance exposure and simpler payback matter most. Choose the HEV when annual urban use is high enough to make its smoother electric assistance and fuel reduction valuable, and when its higher purchase and insurance costs fit comfortably within the budget.
