For mainly urban and motorway use, begin with the FWD HEV. Pay the PKR 1.10 million AWD premium only when its extra traction and equipment genuinely match your routes and priorities.
Understand the current range first
The current Sportage L facelift catalogue contains two hybrid grades: the 1.6T FWD HEV at PKR 12,199,000 and the 1.6T AWD HEV at PKR 13,299,000. That creates a PKR 1,100,000 ex-factory step before registration, withholding tax, insurance, freight and finance cost.
Older Alpha, 2.0L FWD and pre-facelift HEV references can still appear in advertisements or dealer conversations. Reporting around the latest revision describes the older FWD as limited stock and the Alpha and earlier HEV as discontinued. Buyers should therefore insist that the written quotation names the exact model year, facelift status and powertrain.
What the AWD premium is buying
All-wheel drive is most valuable when traction is repeatedly challenged: wet or broken roads, loose surfaces, steep approaches or travel where maintaining drive through poor conditions matters. It should not automatically be treated as a requirement for ordinary city commuting.
The correct comparison is not badge against badge. Ask the dealer for a variant equipment sheet and mark every difference in driver assistance, cameras, seating, trim, wheels and convenience equipment. Then decide how much of the PKR 1.10 million gap is useful hardware for you rather than equipment you may rarely use.
Calculate the real price difference
Apply the same on-road assumptions to both variants. A percentage-based registration or insurance charge increases the absolute gap, while bank financing adds markup to the larger financed amount. Compare down payment, monthly payment and total repayment—not only the monthly instalment.
Hybrid buyers should obtain the high-voltage battery warranty, general vehicle warranty and claim procedure in writing. Also confirm whether the quoted vehicle is physically available, its production month, delivery timing and whether any accessories are compulsory.
Who should choose which?
The FWD HEV is the rational starting point for buyers whose routine is dominated by Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad or motorway travel and who do not need all-wheel-drive traction. It retains the facelifted hybrid proposition while protecting PKR 1.10 million of ex-factory budget.
The AWD HEV is easier to justify for frequent travel in heavy rain, hilly regions, unpaved approaches or for buyers who independently value its confirmed equipment additions. A test drive on familiar roads remains more useful than selecting the highest grade by default.
