REEV means the wheels are electrically driven
Deepal describes the S05 as rear-wheel drive with a 215 hp electric motor and a 1.5-litre petrol range extender. The battery and motor drive the electric experience; the petrol engine is used to extend available energy rather than turning the vehicle into an ordinary petrol SUV. [1]
That architecture can give smooth electric response without making long trips depend entirely on public charging. It also carries two energy systems. Buyers should price both high-voltage service capability and petrol-engine maintenance instead of assuming an REEV has the simplicity of a battery-only EV.
Do not combine the range claims carelessly
Deepal states 170 km of electric range on the NEDC cycle and more than 1,000 km of total range. NEDC is a laboratory cycle and can be optimistic beside real use. Temperature, speed, traffic, air-conditioning, passengers, tyre pressure and elevation all affect the result. [1]
